This year we had twenty-five graduates from seventeen different countries. The ceremony hosted, apart from our students, their families and friends from all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds resulting in an even more remarkable atmosphere. The Vice-Rector of the University of Vienna, Regina Hitzenberger, opened the ceremony and congratulated our graduates on their achievements. Our Scientific Director, Manfred Nowak pointed out current Human Rights challenges and the Academic Coordinator Marijana Grandits underlined the importance to take any opportunity and make a difference in favour of Human Rights. Our students also had the honor to be addressed by the State Secretary, Muna Duzdar in a video message as due to unforseen circumstances she was unable to attend the ceremony. The specially touching speech by Student Representatives Anna Steiner and Jake Mendrik was another highlight of the event, as they talked about friendship and life in Vienna and their experience in the past two years.
After the conferral of degrees and inaguration of the new academic year, the “Hermann and Marianne Straniak Scholarship” was ceremonially handed over to the 2016/2018 full scholarship holder, Jones Kayuma Makayi from Zambia.
