You are in the post-professional stage of life and would like to study, expand your general knowledge from an academic perspective or deal with questions and issues of selected academic disciplines?

The General Studies programme is the first post-professional degree program in Austria that allows you to obtain an academic degree. You can complete modules in the following disciplines: theology, sociology, geography, chemistry, political science, contemporary history, communication, computer science, molecular biology, law and philosophy.

Participants can look forward to valuable exchange with colleagues and experts at the University of Vienna. Courses exclusively for older students provide you with the opportunity to complete a university degree program.

 

The degree program is divided into three formats:

Format 1: "Open course program" – free choice of modules Format 1 includes modules from different disciplines, comprising 5 ECTS credits each. Students can complete every module separately. One module lasts for one semester. It is possible to complete several modules simultaneously.

 

Format 2: Universtiy continuing education and Training program leading to the degree "Akademische/r Absolvent/in" (academic graduate) Students can freely select modules and Combine them to a General Studies program comprising 60 ECTS credits in total. Graduates obtain the academic degree "Akademische/r Absolvent/in" (academic graduate). It takes four Semesters to complete the program if you complete three modules per semester.

Format 3: University continuing education and training program leading to the academic degree "Master of Arts (MA)" In addition to the modules in format 2, students of this program have to complete an additional subject-specific module and a module on academic research and writing, write a master’s thesis and complete a master’s examination. The program comprises 90 ECTS credits in total. Program duration: about three additional semesters.
Students have to consult the academic directors of the program about the additional module to be completed and about the selection of the topic of the master’s thesis.
