Court and public service interpreting for Albanian, Arabic, Dari/Farsi or Turkish in combination with German

Since November 2016, the University of Vienna has been offering a continuing education course in court and public service interpreting. The course lasts 2 semesters (full-time with compulsory class attendance on Fridays and Saturdays) and is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.

In 2018, the University began offering a master’s program (90 ECTS credits). The master’s program consists of the continuing education course combined with a master’s upgrade. Only graduates of the continuing education course who also hold another recognized university degree can be admitted to the master’s upgrade.

High-quality interpretation serves people who are not sufficiently familiar with the official language of an institution, and it is equally important for the institution in question. It facilitates smooth processes, supports the work of the experts working for the institutions, creates trust and ensures quality and legal certainty.

Both postgraduate programs are intended for people already working or wishing to work as interpreters and translators in the judicial field, for the police and asylum authorities, in the fields of healthcare and education, and for social institutions.
